Serving
Servers come to church to worship God. They have a particular responsibility to assist those leading worship so that it may be of the highest standard. There are about 50 servers on the team at St George's. The Head Server draws up the rota of duties.

Youngsters can join the team when they are five years old or at any time after that. After an initial induction, training and instruction are continuous and adapted to suit individual need. Servers are usually "on duty" one Sunday a month but, as they get older, they are also expected to serve at midweek festivals and some other services. We try to respond appropriately to opportunities for learning and growth in faith.

Thorough preparation, training, commitment, mutual support and enthusiasm, servers help to ensure that every service bows smoothly. The purpose of the servers is to discharge their tasks in such a way that the attention of all can be drawn towards and focussed on God.

Lay Assisting
The Ministry of Lay Assistants at St George's is a distinctive ministry. Representative members of the congregation, authorised annually by the Bishop, along with the Reader, Pastoral Assistants and Church Wardens, help with the administration of the Bread or the Wine during the Eucharist. The extent to which Christ's disciples assisted Jesus in his work, including the distribution of food to the four thousand, and the five thousand., is reflected in the developing role and importance of the laity in the work of the Church.
