St George’s Players was established in its current form in 1992, although a drama group had existed in the parish before that. The membership is mostly church-based but open to everyone. We encourage not only actors, but also backstage and supporting staff, and welcome all ages. In fact, the cast of younger players is continually changing as they progress to bigger roles before rushing off to university or a working life elsewhere.
Some element of order is applied by having a committee, elected by the Annual General Meeting in Spring. The Chairman's contact number is listed in the Parish Magazine, or the Church Office will be happy to pass on any enquiries.
The Players rehearse most Monday evenings in St George’s Hall at 8.15 pm. Additional rehearsals are added as necessary, though at other times we have a Monday off. If you are interested in taking part (on or off stage) then do get in touch.
Our 'regular' productions are a pantomime around Christmas time and a drama with a more religious or thought-provoking content in the week before Easter. At other times we may stage a full three-act drama, one-act play, music hall, staged reading or entertainment for a specific event such as a harvest lunch.
